Fall Antiques & Americana (Part 1 of 2)
Lot 7:
Description
C-21627
Late nineteenth-century trapezoidal carpenter’s tool chest constructed of machined dovetailed softwood with an inward-sloping profile, hinged lid, and interior till compartment. Hinges are no longer present. The tapered form was designed to improve portability and stability on job sites while preventing other objects from being stacked on top. Uniform machine-cut finger joints indicate factory production during the late nineteenth century.
Shows moderate to heavy age-related wear throughout including scratches, scuffs, finish wear, stains, scattered splits, shrinkage, and numerous dents consistent with decades of workshop use. Lid is no longer present, with evidence of former hinge attachment visible along the rear edge. Interior exhibits expected wear and surface soiling. Lock hardware is missing, leaving only the keyhole opening. Corners remain solid with expected wear to edges and joints. Overall structurally sound.
