*2-Day* Fresh Barn Finds & Country Estate Auction (Day 1/2)
Lot 16:
Description
C-18871
Electric conversion lamp featuring a heavy brass base with stepped octagonal foot, cast decorative bands, and a vertically ribbed cut glass oil font. The lamp retains its original tall glass chimney and perforated brass burner collar, now adapted for electric use. The conversion preserves the original oil-lamp proportions and materials, reflecting a common early 20th-century practice of updating household lighting while retaining decorative fixtures. The combination of cut glass reservoir, substantial brass construction, and classical detailing places this example firmly within the transitional period when oil lamps were frequently converted for electric service rather than discarded.
Shows surface wear throughout including patina, oxidation, finish loss, and minor abrasions consistent with age and use. Glass chimney and font are intact with no cracks observed. Wiring and socket have been tested and the lamp is operational.
