Description
C-15835
This framed vintage reproduction of "Alone and Forsaken" by German artist H. Vosberg captures a solitary young woman seated in a wooden boat against a tranquil riverside backdrop. Believed to have symbolized a sense of isolation and abandonment, the original work dates to 1887 and reflects the romanticized pastoral themes popular in late 19th-century European art. The oval mat presentation and faux wood grain frame are characteristic of mid-20th-century decorative framing, adding to the piece’s nostalgic appeal. The same is notable as being the one that was gifted to a handyman by Lizzie Borden as partial payment for work done at Maplecroft, her post-acquittal home. Artist: Heinrich Vosberg (1833 – 1891) Date: 1887 (original), early-to-mid 20th century reproduction Medium: Color lithograph on paper, matted and framed under glass Style/Movement: Late 19th-century Romantic realism
Light overall toning and some surface wear to the print; mat and frame show age-related scuffs and minor edge wear; image remains clear and well-defined.
