Lot 65:
Description
C-15834
Painted steel license plate topper with bold red "Conway Fire Dept." lettering and stylized flame graphics on a white background. Likely produced in the mid-20th century, this piece follows the "white label" format popular with sign and novelty makers from the 1940s-60s-standardized topper blanks customized for local fire departments across the U.S. Two slotted mounting holes at the base allowed it to bolt directly over a vehicle’s license plate, with the curved cutout accommodating top-center plate hardware. While examples with the same design turn up for dozens of towns, this one bears the name "Conway" in arched block letters, flanked by large FIRE and DEPT. text set alight with repeating flame motifs. The surface shows light weathering and edge wear consistent with age and outdoor use. Equal parts civic pride and automotive accessory, it’s a rugged relic from the heyday of roadside graphics and volunteer fire company culture.
Light chipping to enamel along edges with minor surface wear; lettering retains strong color and reflectivity.
