Description

C-15516

This framed collection features twelve assorted antique lithographed advertising trade cards, mounted against a red backing and set in a white-painted wood frame. The grouping includes vibrant examples from Ayers Sarsaparilla, Daimler-Mercedes, Harper’s Magazine, Armstrong Bread, Black Horse Tavern, Pierce Arrow, Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey, and more. Each card is held in period-style corner mounts for visual preservation and display. These colorful chromolithograph cards were popular giveaways in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, serving as both promotional materials and collectible ephemera. They were often issued by druggists, patent medicine companies, publishers, and manufacturers to advertise goods ranging from cars to soaps. Typical production dates for these cards range from the 1880s through the 1910s, with manufacturers including N. K. Fairbank Co., Dr. J. C. Ayer & Co., and various period printers tied to Harper & Brothers and circus promotions.

Surface wear and edge wear visible on several cards; discoloration and foxing consistent with age. Frame shows minor chips. This piece has not been inspected outside of the frame.
