Description
C-15515
This early leather-and-metal corn husker-marked "THE BOSS" and manufactured by The Boss MFG. CO., Kewanee, Illinois-features a sturdy steel hook riveted to a thick leather wrist strap. Designed to aid farm workers in manually husking corn, this rugged piece of agricultural gear exemplifies form-follows-function ingenuity, reducing strain during harvests by providing a reliable grip and tear point for stripping husks in the field. The Boss Manufacturing Company was founded in 1893 and became one of the most prolific makers of industrial gloves and farm equipment accessories through the early-to-mid 20th century, catering to the needs of America’s growing agricultural labor force.
Heavy surface wear to metal hook with oxidation; leather shows deep wear and dirt buildup from field use. Markings remain legible. This piece has not been cleaned or conditioned.
