1950s-1960s; Modern Toys (Masudaya) – Tokyo, Japan Vibrant lithographed tinplate riverboat with mechanical wind-up action and rotating paddlewheel. Produced by Modern Toys (a division of Masudaya), this colorful wind-up ‘Show Boat’ captures the theatrical spirit of America’s riverboat era with whimsical detail and motion. Founded in postwar Tokyo in 1947, Masudaya became one of Japan’s most influential tin toy manufacturers, recognized worldwide for its high-quality craftsmanship and iconic designs. This model features bold graphics along the hull and cabins, including silhouettes of dancing figures, twin smokestacks, and a rotating paddlewheel printed with the words "Show Boat." A key-wind motor powers the motion, while the underside retains the original manufacturer’s stamp and patent markings.
