This rustic wooden crate, fitted with layered cardboard dividers, appears to have been designed for transporting fragile goods-likely eggs. The structure consists of a nailed wooden frame with slatted sides, through which the carton-like trays are visible. Such crates were commonly used in the early 1900s before the widespread adoption of standardized egg cartons and mass-produced shipping containers.
The crate shows heavy age wear with darkened patina, surface scuffing, and minor wood loss, but retains its sturdy form. The interior dividers are intact though brittle with age. While its exact purpose is uncertain, its form and materials strongly suggest use in agricultural storage or transport.
