c. 1960s; mfd. by American Can Company for Mead Johnson & Co. – Evansville, IN Early pharmaceutical and nutritional tin for Mead’s Dextro-Maltose, a malted carbohydrate powder prepared for use in infant formulas. The cylindrical metal container features clean white enamel with red printed typography and geometric labeling, prominently displaying the "D M No. 1" emblem and the company’s Evansville, Indiana origin. The product was marketed as a digestible energy supplement composed of maltose and dextrins derived from barley malt and corn flour-one of Mead Johnson’s earliest commercial formula components. Founded in 1905, Mead Johnson & Co. became one of the leading innovators in pediatric and nutritional science, introducing products like Dextri-Maltose and later Enfamil, which set enduring standards in infant nutrition worldwide.
Surface oxidation, minor staining, and light edge wear consistent with age; graphics remain sharp and legible.
