Wheel-thrown earthenware mortar paired with a turned wooden pestle. This utilitarian set reflects the long-standing tradition of ceramic mortars used in both kitchens and apothecaries. The mortar is formed in a flared cone shape with incised banding near the rim and a worn interior glazed in mottled brown with traces of yellow around the lip. The heavy earthenware body shows signs of repeated use, lending a tactile authenticity. Its companion pestle is fashioned from hardwood, hand-turned with a simple ringed collar for grip. Together, they embody the blend of form and function in everyday tools of food preparation and medicinal grinding.
Condition shows surface abrasions, glaze wear to the interior, and a few small chips and losses along the outer body. Pestle displays use wear and darkened patina.
