Lot 499:
Description
C-19592
Two decorative ceramic vases representing distinct decorative traditions of the twentieth century. The taller example is a deep cobalt-blue Japanese export vase featuring a detailed hand-applied scene of pheasants and foliage rendered in polychrome enamels with gilt accents. The birds appear perched among stylized leaves and grasses, a common motif in mid-century Japanese decorative wares produced for Western markets.
Accompanying it is a rounded turquoise-blue ceramic vase with small loop handles at the shoulder and a short collar neck. The glossy glaze pools subtly toward the base, highlighting the softly swelling body and classic amphora-inspired silhouette.
Shows light age-related wear including minor surface marks and light rubbing to decorative elements. No major cracks observed.
Japanese vase: 2.5” W x 2.5” D x 9.5” H
