Description

C-19540

Group of six Standard Oil highway maps printed by Rand McNally and distributed through Standard Oil service stations during the early postwar automobile boom. The lot includes editions for St. Louis, Indiana, Colorado (two examples), Kansas, and Minnesota. Each cover features the recognizable Standard Oil torch emblem rising above stylized roadside scenes, including illustrations of service attendants, motorists consulting maps, and mid-century automobiles fueling at station pumps.

Interior maps show detailed highway systems, town indexes, mileage charts, and regional travel information typical of the period when road maps were a primary navigation tool for motorists. Reverse panels promote the Standard Oil credit card program, displaying sample cards and listing affiliated companies within the Standard Oil network, emphasizing the nationwide reach of service stations during the era of expanding interstate travel.

Shows age-related wear including fold lines, minor toning, and edge wear consistent with use. Several examples are housed in protective sleeves and some covers bear small handwritten price stickers. Maps remain legible overall with typical fold creasing.
