Multi-Estate Spring 2026 Auction
Lot 337:
Description
C-19385
Three classic American pipe tobacco tins representing some of the most recognizable names in 20th-century smoking culture. Includes a bold orange and black Sir Walter Raleigh smoking tobacco tin, marked “Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp., Louisville, Ky., U.S.A.”; a richly detailed blue Edgeworth Extra High Grade Ready-Rubbed tin manufactured by Larus & Brother Co., Richmond, Va.; and a red Prince Albert Crimp Cut long-burning pipe and cigarette tobacco tin from R.J. Reynolds, Winston-Salem, N.C. Each features period typography, portrait imagery, and promotional copy including patent dates and flavor claims such as “Does Not Bite The Tongue.” Hinged and friction-fit lids remain present, with strong surviving color despite honest wear.
All three show age-related wear including surface scratches, edge wear, scattered rust spotting, finish loss, and minor dents. Prince Albert example shows heavier exterior wear and fading; Edgeworth tin exhibits surface oxidation and light corrosion; Raleigh retains strong graphics with typical handling wear and minor seam oxidation.
