c. 1930s-1940s; Keystone Manufacturing Co. – Boston, MA Wood-mounted film splicer and editing station produced by Keystone Manufacturing Co. of Boston. The setup includes a central film splicing mechanism with magnifier, flanked by dual geared reels for advancing and rewinding 16mm or 8mm film. Four recessed circular holders on each side likely served as storage wells for splicing supplies or additional reels. A Keystone decal with bold red lettering identifies the maker. Keystone Mfg. Co., established in Boston in the early 20th century, gained recognition for producing affordable cameras, projectors, and film-editing equipment for the amateur motion picture market. Their products provided hobbyists and small institutions with access to the burgeoning world of home movies, serving as a key link in the democratization of film technology.
Surface wear and scuffs to the wood base, light oxidation to metal components, and expected age toning. Mechanisms appear intact with patina consistent with use.
