c. 1930s/1940s; Penncraft (J.C. Penney Co.) – New York Heavy-duty miter box marked Penncraft, complete with original back saw. The tool features a cast iron base with adjustable angle guides, upright supports with clamping mechanisms, and a wooden bed platform for stabilizing stock. The matching saw has a steel blade with straight back and a turned wooden handle. Penncraft was J.C. Penney’s in-house tool brand, offering durable, affordable equipment from the 1930s through the 1960s. Produced by established manufacturers and rebranded for the department store chain, Penncraft tools are now collectible both for their quality construction and their connection to the golden era of American hardware retail.
Surface wear, oxidation to saw blade, and paint loss to base consistent with shop use. All parts appear intact, with patina appropriate to age.
