c. 1930s-1940s; Van Dam Cigar Co. – Grand Rapids, Michigan This wooden cigar box was produced by the Van Dam Cigar Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan, a regional cigar manufacturer active during the early to mid-20th century. The box advertises "Bulk Special! 5¢ Cigars" with bold red typography on the inside lid and front label, promising "Guaranteed a Perfect Smoke." These economy-priced cigars were marketed during a period when nickel and dime cigars dominated the American tobacco trade.
The box retains its original paper labels with strong color and graphics, showing wear, fading, and edge loss appropriate to age. A partial blue tax stamp remains affixed to the front, further grounding the piece in its Depression- and wartime-era history. A fine example of everyday tobacco advertising ephemera.
