Description

C-17656

This early lawn sprinkler features a cast iron openwork base, upright riser pipe, and a three-arm rotary head designed to distribute water in a circular spray. When connected to a garden hose, water pressure would cause the arms to spin, evenly watering lawns or gardens. The sprinkler retains traces of its original red paint, now worn with patina from outdoor use. Rotary sprinklers of this type gained popularity in the first half of the 20th century as suburban lawns and decorative gardening became a hallmark of American homes. Ruggedly built, they were intended for decades of service.

This example shows oxidation and surface wear but remains structurally solid and collectible for display or restoration.
