Lot 474:
Description
C-20431
Antique iron cow leg hobbles featuring forged metal cuffs connected by a length of chain and terminal ring. These agricultural tools were used during milking to restrain a cow’s hind legs and prevent kicking. Constructed of heavy iron with a simple utilitarian design, they reflect the practical equipment commonly found on early twentieth-century dairy farms. Produced by an unidentified maker, likely United States, c. 1900-1930.
The hobbles exhibit wear consistent with age and use including oxidation, surface rust, scratches, and areas of pitting. The chain and cuffs remain intact and display an attractive aged patina.
