C-17891

c. 1950s/1960s; General Fire Extinguisher Corp. – Chicago, IL / Culver City, CA / Philadelphia, PA Polished metal soda-acid fire extinguisher marked General Quick Aid. The cylindrical body features a large decal plate with bold red instruction panel reading "TO OPERATE TURN BOTTOM UP." Retains original copper hose with brass nozzle and blue-painted top handle. This model was intended for use on Class A fires involving wood, paper, or fabric. Manufactured by General Fire Extinguisher Corp., a mid-century American company specializing in both household and industrial fire suppression systems. Soda-acid extinguishers were widely used before the adoption of CO₂ and dry-chemical types, offering a dramatic but effective reaction when inverted to mix chemicals and expel pressurized liquid.

Shows surface scratches and scattered wear to plating, with oxidation to fittings and minor dents to casing. Decal plate remains legible with strong color. Hose supple with age-darkened patina.
