Description
C-18110
c. 1890s-1910s; Staffordshire, England Elegant ceramic wash basin and pitcher set decorated in a vivid Imari-inspired palette of cobalt blue, deep orange, and gold with stylized floral motifs and gilt accents. The pitcher features a scalloped rim, molded relief scrollwork, and a graceful handle trimmed in gold, while the bowl carries a complementary floral border pattern around the interior rim. Sets of this type were commonly used in Victorian bedrooms prior to widespread indoor plumbing, serving as both functional and decorative fixtures reflecting the aesthetic tastes of the era. Staffordshire potteries of the late 19th century were internationally renowned for their fine earthenware and porcelain, producing ornate domestic wares that balanced artistry with practicality for middle- and upper-class households.
Lid has seen extensive repair around the rim. Bowl shows a roughened rim in spots with overall crazing; both pieces display finish loss and typical signs of age.
