c. 1930s; Henri Selmer Paris – Mantes-la-Ville, France Student-grade clarinet produced under the Bundy name by Selmer, constructed from black Resonite (hard rubber composite) with nickel-plated keywork. An impressed and worn inscription on the body identifies the instrument as a "Bundy Resonite" clarinet, a line long associated with durable, affordable instruments intended for school and beginner use. The clarinet is housed in its original fitted hard case with a burgundy plush interior. Bundy clarinets were widely used in American school music programs throughout the mid-20th century, valued for their stability, resistance to cracking, and ease of maintenance compared to wood instruments. Selmer’s acquisition and continued production of the Bundy line helped standardize student instruments across the U.S., making these clarinets a familiar entry point for generations of players. While not intended as professional instruments, Bundy clarinets are well regarded for their reliability and historical role in music education.
Condition shows clear signs of age and use. The body exhibits surface wear and a heavily worn manufacturer’s inscription. Keywork shows wear and light tarnish. Pads, corks, and playability have not been evaluated, and no servicing has been performed. Case shows exterior wear consistent with student use.
