Description

C-18771

Set of seven graduated pub-style measures produced as decorative metalware, cast in a zinc-based alloy (likely zamac) and finished to resemble historic tavern and public-house measures. Material appearance, surface cracking, and overall finish are consistent with cast zinc alloy rather than pewter. The group includes the following sizes: 1 Liter, 1/2 Liter, 2 Deciliter, 1 Deciliter, 1/2 Deciliter, 2 Centiliter, and 1 Centiliter. Each features a flared pouring lip, squared handle marked with capacity text, and raised decorative lettering around the rim intended to evoke early verification markings. The uniformity of form, finish, and markings across the set indicates intentional production as a coordinated decorative group rather than utilitarian barware. While inspired by 19th-century European public-house measures, the faint lettering around the rims is decorative in nature and should not be interpreted as authentic capacity verification or legal stamping. Genuine verified pub measures typically show irregular, deeply struck marks applied individually over time; the evenly spaced, lightly cast lettering seen here reflects later decorative manufacture. Pieces of this type were commonly produced in Italy for export in the mid-20th century, aimed at bar décor, restaurant interiors, and collector displays.

Condition shows general surface wear, oxidation, and casting cracks consistent with age and material. Largest measure is cracked along the top. No testing or calibration performed.
