c. 1930s-1940s; Louis Marx & Co. – NYC Group of tin lithographed toy train accessories produced by Louis Marx & Co., comprising Pennsylvania Railroad-marked track sections and painted tin landscape elements. The set includes curved and straight black track pieces, switch sections with signal indicators, a lithographed Pennsylvania Railroad freight car side panel, and multiple tin scenic inserts decorated with bright pastoral landscapes featuring houses, trees, and rolling countryside. Together, the components were intended to form part of a tabletop or floor-based Marx train layout. Marx was one of the dominant American toy manufacturers of the early-to-mid 20th century, known for producing durable, affordable train sets that emphasized play value over scale precision. Pennsylvania Railroad-branded accessories were especially popular, reflecting the PRR’s prominence in American railroading and its frequent appearance in toy train marketing. Tin litho scenery pieces like these added visual interest to layouts and are increasingly scarce compared to locomotives and rolling stock.
