Lot 74:
Framed Seagulls Over Harbor Watercolor by F. Gates
Description
C-22338
Watercolor depicting a flock of seagulls in flight over a harbor or coastal waterscape, signed “F. Gates Sept. 1979,” likely Chicago-area artist Francis Gates; framed with an “In Memory of La Veta Thompson” plaque.
Artwork and mat show surface dirt and debris, with dirt and spiderwebs visible beneath the plexiglass. The artwork, mat, and plexiglass have shifted beyond the retaining brads and are nearly falling out of the frame. Memorial plaque has detached from the frame and is taped to the plexiglass. Frame shows surface wear but remains sturdy.
