Description

C-21651

Primitive wooden step stool or bucket bench constructed from thick hardwood planks with solid board legs joined by a single stretcher. The top features a hand-cut oval carrying slot, while the splayed legs terminate in inverted “V” cutouts. Square-cut nail construction and hand-finished surfaces are consistent with late 19th-century rural craftsmanship. The form was commonly used as a step stool, milking stool, or bucket bench in farm and household settings.

Exhibits wear consistent with age and use. Construction remains solid. Ends of the top exhibit age-related checking and cracks. Scattered scratches, abrasions, dents, and finish wear are present throughout. Paint drips are visible on the legs. Surface retains an aged patina from prolonged use.
