*2-Day* Fresh Barn Finds & Country Estate Auction (Day 1/2)
Lot 56:
Description
C-18850
c. 1940s-1950s; Marlin Bros. – Delano, California Original California grape crate produced for Marlin Brand table grapes, constructed with nailed pine end boards and heavy cardstock side panels printed in blue with grape cluster graphics and script branding. The ends retain bold red MARLIN lettering alongside produce-of-USA markings and the Delano, CA address, grounding the piece firmly in mid-century Central Valley agricultural packaging. Vent cutouts along the interior walls reflect its original function for airflow and transport, while the lightweight hybrid construction speaks to cost-efficient, single-use produce logistics of the era. Marlin Bros. operated out of Delano during the height of California’s table grape boom, supplying branded crates to regional and national markets as agricultural packaging became increasingly standardized and visually competitive in the mid-20th century.
Shows honest wear throughout, including edge softening, surface abrasions, paper loss along the side panels, and heavy wear to the interior base consistent with use. Graphics remain legible with expected fading and handling marks. Structurally intact.
