The decoy retains its original cast metal anchor and line, indicating use as a working waterfowl decoy rather than a decorative reproduction. The body shows the textured surface and construction typical of mid-century Herter’s sporting goods, produced for durability and mass distribution to hunters. Herter’s, Inc. of Waseca, Minnesota was a major mid-20th-century outfitter supplying hunting, fishing, and outdoor equipment nationwide, with their decoys known for practical design and widespread use rather than hand-carved presentation pieces.
