c. 1870s-1890s; Miller, Dubrul & Peters Manufacturing Co. – Cincinnati, OH Elongated wooden 20-cigar press mold manufactured by Miller, Dubrul & Peters Mfg. Co., constructed from two hinged hardwood halves, each carved with a uniform row of cigar-forming channels intended to shape multiple cigars simultaneously after weight is applied via a cast iron press. The interior cavities are evenly spaced and smoothly worn from repeated use, while the exterior retains squared, utilitarian construction with chamfered edges. Impressed maker’s text and production markings remain visible along the side, directly corresponding to period advertising by the firm. Miller, Dubrul & Peters Mfg. Co. specialized in cigar-making machinery and accessories, supplying presses, shapers, molds, and cutters to workshops and small factories during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Presses of this type were used to standardize size and profile during hand-rolling, clamping wrapped tobacco leaves while they set. The extended format allowed for efficient batch production and reflects the transitional period between purely hand-formed cigars and increasingly mechanized processes.
Shows surface wear and patina throughout consistent with age and use. Wood exhibits darkening, minor edge wear, and handling marks. No major cracks observed. Hinge operates as intended. Structurally sound.
