Metal railroad marker or signal lantern with cylindrical body, pedestal base, and hinged front access door retaining a reflective interior panel. The lantern houses a candle chamber within the body and features side openings fitted for colored signal lenses or markers, one retaining a milk glass insert. Finished in black paint with substantial surface wear throughout, the piece displays a utilitarian construction associated with early railroad or rail yard signaling equipment.
Evidence of previous candle use remains visible inside the chamber. The lantern retains its hinged doors and overall form, with heavy age and handling wear contributing to its industrial appearance. Shows extensive paint loss, surface oxidation, and general wear from age and use. Interior shows wax residue and evidence of prior candle burning.
