Wall-mounted “Shur-Stop” fire suppressant cylinder with painted instruction placard and brass Fyr-Fyter valve handle marked “FYR-FYTER” and “2101.” The label identifies the device as “The Automatic Fireman on the Wall, ” intended for use in extinguishing fires at their source. Systems of this type were commonly installed near furnaces, industrial machinery, and heating equipment as an early automatic fire protection measure.
Includes detached mounting hardware and brackets accompanying the unit, though the brackets do not appear to be original to the cylinder. Surface wear, oxidation, tarnish, paint loss, scratches, and corrosion present throughout. Instruction placard exhibits fading and edge wear. Heavy rust and paint loss visible to brackets and mounting components.
