Description
C-20585
20th century; Japan Framed black formal kimono display featuring white mon crests at the sleeves and chest, mounted against a muted mauve backing within a black lacquered frame. The garment opens to reveal a richly woven silk interior lining executed in bronze, silver, cream, and muted blue tones with decorative textile imagery and traditional ornamental motifs. The restrained exterior paired with the elaborate interior presentation reflects the formal aesthetic associated with traditional Japanese ceremonial garments. The kimono is mounted within a large custom presentation frame under protective glazing. Reverse retains a Michaels framing label noting TruGuard UV protection acrylic and professional finishing. Hanging wire remains attached to the reverse.
The kimono appears to be in excellent condition. Shows light creasing and minor waviness to the textile along with scattered wear to the frame including scuffs, scratches, and finish loss. Reverse paper backing shows punctures, abrasions, tape residue, and handling wear from age and display.
