Description
C-19531
c. 1960s–1970s; likely American or Mexican studio work Mixed metal sculpture depicting a sailboat alongside a cluster of palm trees, executed in a mid-century modern decorative style. Formed from cut and shaped sheet metal with a warm brass-tone finish, the piece features textured, irregular edges and visible soldering consistent with studio craft techniques. The sail is constructed with curved panels and wire rigging, while the palm fronds are stylized with pierced and contoured leaves mounted on slender rod trunks. The composition is set on a rectangular stone base, likely onyx or alabaster, providing weight and contrast to the metallic elements.
Shows moderate wear consistent with age, including surface oxidation, light scratching, and some discoloration to the metal surfaces. Edges show natural irregularity from fabrication. Stone base exhibits typical veining and minor wear. Structurally stable and displays well.
