c. early to mid-20th century Pair of ceramic vases including a tall, faceted cobalt blue example decorated with a gilt and polychrome bird-and-floral motif, and a smaller amphora-form vase with applied scroll handles in a rich turquoise-blue glaze. The taller vase features a stylized pheasant amid foliage with gold detailing and a squared base, while the amphora presents a more restrained form with high shoulders and a narrow neck. The underside of the amphora is marked “Japan, ” indicating export production.
General surface wear consistent with age. The decorated cobalt vase shows scattered surface scratching and minor wear to the gilt along the rim. The amphora exhibits glaze wear, light scratching, and some discoloration to the body. No major cracks observed; overall condition reflects typical display and handling wear.
