Hand-operated fireplace bellows constructed with a carved and tooled leather body over wooden boards, joined with riveted leather seams and fitted with a turned brass nozzle. The elongated form and hanging loop at the handle end are characteristic of domestic hearth tools intended to stoke and revive fires in coal- or wood-burning fireplaces. The surface retains traces of the original tooled decoration, now softened by age and wear, with visible nail heads and edge binding along the perimeter.
Condition is poor. This example shows clear evidence of long-term use, offering strong visual character despite its compromised condition. Bellows as a whole is split. Leather is heavily worn, cracked, and partially deteriorated, with areas of loss and separation at the seams. Brass nozzle shows surface wear and patina.
