Description
C-19057
c. 1890s-1910s; Carl Thieme – Dresden, Germany & Bawo & Dotter – Limoges, France Two-piece late Victorian to Edwardian porcelain grouping featuring distinct Continental manufacture. The pedestal bowl bears the Dresden Carl Thieme mark, while the lidded jar is marked Bawo & Dotter "BBD K LIMOGES." Though not a matched set, both pieces share a refined floral aesthetic and high gilt decoration typical of turn-of-the-century export porcelain. The Dresden pedestal bowl features double handles, a footed base with full interior gilt wash, and finely painted floral bouquets framed by delicate swagged gilt garlands. The decoration is light, precise, and airy – consistent with Dresden studio work of the period. The Bawo & Dotter lidded jar carries more dimensional modeling, with applied rope-and-ring motif handles and a sculptural bow-form finial. Its floral sprays are naturalistic with subtle gray foliage and gold highlights against a warm ivory ground.
Condition is good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Light gilt loss along rims and raised detailing. Minor surface wear consistent with use. No major cracks or structural damage observed.
