c. 1904; Chas. K. Harris – Chicago, IL Original early 20th century sheet music cover titled "Come Take a Trip in My Air Ship, " composed by George Evans and Ren Shields. The lithographed cover features a night sky filled with stars and a crescent moon, with a large dirigible airship drifting overhead. At lower right is an oval portrait of performer Edna Wallace Hopper, credited as introducing and singing the song. The bold red and blue color palette, stylized typography, and detailed rendering of the airship capture the era’s fascination with early aviation and romantic novelty themes. Published at the height of America’s airship craze-just one year after the Wright brothers’ first flight-the imagery reflects the public imagination surrounding lighter-than-air travel. The piece was widely popular in vaudeville circuits and remains one of the best-known aviation-themed songs of the period. The cover is housed in a simple dark wood frame with a red mat, complementing the original color scheme.
Light toning and minor edge wear visible to the paper, consistent with age. Frame shows minor surface scuffs; overall displays well.
