Description

C-17498

c. 1910s/1920s; The Cyclone Seeder Co. – Urbana, IN Hand-crank seed spreader featuring a painted wood backboard with shoulder contour, cast iron frame, and a large rotating four-arm spreader plate operated by a side crank with turned wood handle. Designed to be worn against the chest and carried in front, the spreader would distribute seed evenly across fields or gardens by broadcasting as the user walked. Seed spreaders of this type were common tools for farmers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, valued for their efficiency and durability before the widespread mechanization of planting. Their simple, rugged design reflects utilitarian craftsmanship made to withstand years of agricultural use.

Surface wear, oxidation, and paint loss present; wood shows scratches and fading from long use. Crank mechanism intact though untested.
