Description

C-17469

c. 1900s; National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) – New York, NY Advertising letter opener featuring the iconic "Uneeda Biscuit Boy" dressed in his yellow raincoat and hat, clutching a box of Uneeda Biscuits. The figure, rendered in lithographed tin, forms the handle, while the functional steel blade extends below. This image of the boy in rain gear became one of the most recognizable American advertising mascots of the early 20th century, symbolizing freshness and protection against moisture. Produced for the National Biscuit Company (later Nabisco), such novelty items were distributed as promotional giveaways to reinforce brand identity during the company’s rapid expansion in the first decades of the 20th century.

Surface wear with scattered paint loss and scratches throughout, particularly on the lithographed handle. Blade shows light tarnish but remains intact.
