c. 1930s-1940s; Louis Marx & Co. – New York, NY Compact black enameled toy transformer produced by Louis Marx & Co., designed to regulate power for early model train and electric toy setups. The unit features a metal control lever, dual terminal posts, and a red indicator light mounted to the side. The faceplate is stamped "Toy Transformer No. 1239" with detailed voltage and wattage markings, emphasizing its dual-function "High" and "Low" output settings. Constructed in a rugged steel housing with heavy-gauge wiring, this piece reflects the early era of electric play equipment and small-scale engineering marvels made for the home hobbyist. Louis Marx & Co., founded in 1919, became one of the largest and most innovative toy manufacturers in America-famed for their tin litho trains, pressed steel vehicles, and electric play accessories throughout the mid-20th century.
Tested and felt no motor hum. Displays age-typical scuffs, enamel wear, and oxidation to metal fittings, with cords present but aged.
