Lot 591:
Description
C-18034
Hand-made tin sheet six-tube candle mold with an integral side handle. The mold forms six tall tapers at a time, with a squared base providing stability and a flat plate at the top for pouring wax. Black painted surface shows layered age and functional wear, reflecting its use in domestic production before the advent of factory-made candles. Candle molds of this type were essential household tools throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, with regional smiths and tinsmiths producing variations for daily use across America.
Surface shows scattered oxidation, loss of finish, and expected wear from age and use. Structurally sound and well preserved.
