c. 1940s; Imported for Marshall Field & Co. – Chicago, IL Handcrafted figurine depicting a Chinese fisherman, dressed in traditional attire with a straw rain cape and hat, holding a pole and a freshly caught fish. The figure is mounted on a stepped wooden base with a brass placard reading "Chinese Fisherman" and remains housed within a protective acrylic case. This piece was purchased at the flagship Marshall Field & Co. department store on State Street in Chicago, a premier retailer known for offering imported goods and decorative arts throughout the 20th century. Figurines of this type reflected midcentury American fascination with Asian crafts and were often sold as decorative curiosities or conversation pieces.
Shows minor wear to clothing and base, with expected fading to natural straw materials; acrylic case shows light scuffs.
