Description
C-15514
This original lithographed advertising piece promotes "Priscilla Bright Virginia Cut Plug Smoking Tobacco, " manufactured by P. Lorillard Co. of Jersey City, New Jersey. The central portrait of a woman named Priscilla is surrounded by elegant Victorian typography and sky-blue banners, typical of 19th-century tobacco packaging design. This image would have likely served as a store card or product label, designed to catch the eye in a tobacconist’s shop window. The Lorillard Tobacco Company, founded in 1760, is one of the oldest tobacco firms in the U.S., and it produced a wide range of pipe and chewing tobacco products throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Print appears clean with sharp contrast. Some spotting and age toning present. Frame shows minor surface wear. Artwork has not been inspected outside of the frame.
15.5" W x 12.5" H
