Lot 260:
Description
C-17652
c. 1880s-1890s; Brown Chemical Co. – Baltimore, Maryland This original Victorian-era advertising trade card promotes Brown’s Iron Bitters, a popular patent medicine manufactured by Brown Chemical Co. of Baltimore in the late 19th century. The lithographed image depicts playful puppies peeking from a barrel as a child looks on, with vibrant color and charming detail designed to attract household buyers.
The card is presented in a period wooden frame with carved and painted detail. Surface wear and light toning are present, but the lithograph retains strong color. Trade cards like this were widely distributed by druggists and general stores in the late 1800s, blending art, advertising, and domestic sentiment.
