Lot 238:
Description
C-17879
c. 1950s-1960s; Mercury Records & Various Makers – USA A multi-piece lot of mid-century Dick Tracy collectibles including the Crimestoppers Kit, the Dick Tracy Detective Game, and the Mercury Records "Case of the Midnight Marauder" vinyl adventure (pair). The Crimestoppers Kit contains a fingerprinting kit, badge, license holder, whistle, secret code slider, "ticket" book, small handbook, and a postcard "signed" by Dick Tracy alongside Joe Jitsu. The Dick Tracy Detective Game includes the original game board, spinner, and character pieces, with vibrant artwork mapping a chase across the U.S. The pair of Mercury Records vinyls, designed for interactive play with fill-in-the-blanks comic sheet jackets, dramatize a story with narration and musical accompaniment. Together, these elements highlight how Chester Gould’s crime-busting detective was adapted into immersive experiences for children in the 1950s. Mercury Records, founded in Chicago in 1945, became one of the leading American record labels of the mid-20th century, known for its innovations in popular, jazz, and children’s recordings.
Shows expected signs of age and use including light wear to paper ephemera, minor surface scratches to vinyls, and handling wear to board game and kit items. Pieces remain bright and well-preserved overall with strong display appeal.
