This utilitarian poultry tool, commonly called a chicken catcher, consists of a long wire shaft with a hooked end and a simple turned wooden handle. The hook was used to snag chickens by the leg for handling or slaughter, reflecting the rougher, inhumane aspects of early farm practices before the development of more humane handling methods.
The piece shows age wear with patina on the wire and surface marks on the handle but remains intact. An authentic example of primitive agricultural life and early poultry-raising tools.
