General Antiques and Collectibles Spring Auction
Lot 233:
Description
C-17789
Group lot of vintage toy cap guns (several fixed-barrel and revolver styles) accompanied by a single small folding pocket knife. Many show period painted finishes, stamped metal construction, and cast details typical of mid-century play weapons. The tiny folding knife is the only true knife in the lot and is included for scale and completeness. Produced by a range of mid-20th-century toy manufacturers on both sides of the Pacific, these cap guns reflect the heyday of Western and adventure play for American children – inexpensive stamped metal toys that used friction or percussion caps to create sound effects and drama.
Surface paint loss, light rust/oxidation to unprotected metal, small dents and dings consistent with play, one replaced barrel as noted. Mechanisms vary; some cap chambers show residue and may require cleaning or parts to function. THe cap pistol labeled "The "Mut" has had the barrel replaced – a later repair or parts swap that should be noted for collectors. Overall a displayable group lot with strong nostalgic appeal.
