Description
C-17886
c. 1950s; The A.C. Gilbert Co. – New Haven, CT Electrified accessory sign produced by American Flyer, featuring a lithographed circus panel with clown portrait and bold lettering for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey – The Greatest Show on Earth. The sign is framed in a white painted metal housing mounted to a pale green base, with wiring extending from the reverse for connection to a model train transformer. Made by the A.C. Gilbert Company under its American Flyer line, this accessory reflects the company’s mid-century experimentation with crossover licensing. Best known for its electric trains and Erector Sets, Gilbert expanded its offerings with add-ons that integrated other American cultural icons, including circus and carnival imagery.
Displays light surface wear and scuffs to painted base, with minor age toning to litho insert. Wiring remains intact but is untested. Strong color and vivid circus graphics throughout.
