Lot 205:
Description
C-17818
Colorful relief-molded ceramic beer stein featuring a tavern drinking scene on the front, framed by panels with wheat and hop motifs. One side bears the inscription "Gott erhalt’s" ("God bless/preserve it"), while the reverse reads "Hopfen u. Malz" ("Hops and Malt"), a traditional German brewing and drinking phrase. The stein is richly glazed in green, tan, and brown, with stylized borders and a decorative handle. A domed pewter lid with foliate engraving and thumb lift completes the piece. Produced during the mid-20th century German souvenir stein boom, these pieces echoed traditional 19th-century forms while being made for export as well as domestic collectors.
Very good overall with light surface wear and crazing; pewter lid retains age patina. No cracks or repairs observed.
