c. 1930s-1940s; Weber Costello Company – Chicago Heights, IL Metal storage tin containing one gross (144 pieces) of Monarch brand "dustless crayons, " more commonly known as school chalk. The hinged black tin features a bright yellow paper label with lion logo, advertising the company’s 95% dustless chalk formulation. Inside, the chalk sticks remain largely intact and unused, presenting as a near-complete original set. Produced by Weber Costello Company-a Chicago Heights firm best remembered for its high-quality school supplies and precision globes-this piece reflects the mid-century intersection of education and industrial design. Compact and boldly labeled, the tin would have been a staple in classrooms, balancing durability with practical everyday use. Its clean lines and honest wear give it both utility and display appeal for collectors of educational, industrial, or advertising ephemera.
