c. 1940s; Solo Cup Company – Chicago, IL Pair of stainless steel paper cup dispensers produced by the Solo Cup Company in the 1940s. Each dispenser features a flared cone shape designed to hold and dispense the company’s iconic conical paper cups, an innovation in disposable drinkware. These utilitarian countertop dispensers reflect the wartime and postwar push toward sanitary, single-use service in diners, factories, and soda fountains. The Solo Cup Company, founded in 1936 in Chicago, became widely recognized for pioneering disposable cups and dispensers. Their early stainless and chrome holders remain collectible pieces of American industrial design, linking to both mid-century dining culture and the rise of convenience products.
Condition shows light surface wear and patina from age, but both dispensers remain structurally sound and display-ready.
